  Levi-Struass and Binary Opposition: 'Cinema is a set of universal rules, a set of relations that could be described as the grammar of film'. Levi-Strauss theorised that since all cultures are products of the human brain, there must be, beneath the surface, features that are common to all. Independant Film

 An independant film is one made outside of the Hollywood studio system. The major Hollywood film studios are often reffered to as 'The Big Six'. These command a significant market share, and the budgets tend to be much bigger than those of an idepenedant film. The Big Six are: - Paramount - Warner Brothers - 20th Century Fox - Universal - Colombia  - Walt Disney Bait An independant UK film, released in August 2019. Described as a 'no-budget' film (no exact budget has been given), it was directed by Mark Jenkin and intially recorded without sound - sound was added post production. Jenkin also wrote and recorded the score.  Joint Ventures Not all films have this luxury, though, so independant comapnies (i.e. those free from the control of a conglomerate) may undertake a joint venure - this is when one media company works with another on a project mutually beneficial for both parties.  Get Out is an example of a joint venture. Encanto is a disney film; because Disney is a conglomerate company (one overall parent comapny owns a number of smaller, subsidiary companies) , they have creative control over the production process.  Encanto, then, was produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Therefore, the company has complete control over the film from inception to release, and have access to multiple platforms for cross-promotion (Disney using bilboards in their theme parks or trailers on Disney+) and Synergy (working with another comapny).  Video-on-demand: Nowadays, companies can also exhibit their films via online video-on-demand (VoD) services such as Netflix and YouTube.  Disney owns the Disney Channel (TV) but also Disney+, a VoD allowing it to compete with the likes of Netflix.  Watching films in the cinema because: Saw a trailer on YT. Hype/buzz on social media. Anticipation for a sequal etc.  The experience of seeing the film in the cinema....
